D.C. Cherry Blossums at Sunrise

Last weekend I took a trip with my long time friend  Serina to Washington, D.C. to visit my college roommate Beth. I checked out the city for the first time last August and added it to my top ten favorite towns America.  It was great to be back, even if I didn’t sleep much while I was there.  Saturday morning we woke before sunrise, made a quick pit stop at Star Bucks for americanos, then headed down to the Tidal Bison to see the Japanese Cherry Blossoms in peak bloom.  We were tired, but it was worth it.  The light was stunning and the stretch of trees lining the water were pure eye candy. Thanks ladies for putting up with the paparazzi 🙂

Washington Monument.

Big Abe, more accurately called The Lincoln Memorial.

Beth wasn’t quite awake yet.

Serina’s vampire eyes.

Sipping Joe.

The Jefferson Memorial. Can’t you tell?

Back to the Damen Building with Steve.

In February, I had a post showing a few shots from  a Sunday afternoon when I visited a building in the Pilsen area of Chicago.  More than a year before, I spotted the old boarded up grain silo on the train heading to Chicago Midway Airport where I was heading to New York to reunite with my friend Alina and the photographers at the VII seminar.

I made a point that morning to remember the spot and planned to find my way there when I returned to Chicago.  It was during that trip to New York when I was offered an opportunity to work in SE Asia. Ten days later I was back on a flight, this time heading to Thailand.

My plans were postones, but not forgotten.

It was exciting to finally make it to the building in February, but nightfall was fast approaching.  I once more planned to make it back, this time with a friend and more light.

Last Friday  photog friend Steve and I found the “entrance” and set started shooting. The sun was finally out after what seemed like a winter of only gray days.  Despite the slush from the snow, I had a great time exploring the area and taking Steve’s headshots. Afterward we headed to a delicious Mexican restaurant called Abuelo’s Mexican Grill. YUMMM, perfect way to end the afternoon.

**Check back soon for shots from the area.

To my friend who doubted, I wore boots that day.

Adam

The love between Adam and Jennifer filled their dressing rooms, church, and reception hall.  Everywhere they went, a sense of happiness and adoration radiated from the two of them and spilled over to the guest.  It was a marriage that moved not just the father-of-the-bride to tears, but the majority of those looking on (I think a tear or two threatened to spill from my own eyes.)

Jennifer is a throwback to the classic elegance of Judy Garland. Beautiful and sincere with all those around her.  Adam’s smile says everything about him–it comes easily and without pretenses.  What a nice couple.

**Jennifer’s mother made her veil, which EVERYONE drooled over.  It’s simply incredible.  I couldn’t stop looking at it.

I’m so happy to have had the opportunity to second shoot this wedding with Photographer Extraordinaire, Laurie Peacock!  She’s amazing.  Makes my day better every time I see her!
