I love maternity for the chance to celebrate this incredible, magical time in women’s lives.
In 2012, I documented Engy and Jason’s wedding at Prairie Productions in downtown Chicago. I had a great time getting to know the couple, who are kind, laid back, and surrounded by wonderful friends and family.
I was thrilled when I received a message back in February that they were expecting their first son, Alex, and asked me to capture newborn pictures. They came by the studio last week with 10-day old Alex, a delightful little boy with a full head of dark hair just like his mommas. I loved watching them delight in their new son, both happy as can be with the new addition to their family. Big congrats to the Engy and Jason!
I’m in love with RGB Cosmetics’ cuticle oil! After a recent product shoot with the company, I was lucky enough to walk away with a bottle of the organic oil. With all these fabulous ingredients, who wouldn’t love it! In the thick of Chicago’s winter, I can’t use it enough!
Made with soy oil, myrrh oil, jojoba oils, biotin, cucumber essential oil.
On a wintery December Sunday, at Bond Chapel on University of Chicago campus, Tinie and Derek recited their handwritten vows to each other in front of an intimate group of close family and friends. As Derek made promises, to Tinie he slowly became more and more overcome with emotion until he leaned forward and gripped his soon-to-be wife in a tight embrace. I can’t imagine there was a dry eye in the chapel (including this photographer who definitely blinked away a tear or two).
Following the ceremony, the couple darted out into the elements, were big puffy snowflakes fell, creating a fresh blanket of white. It was gorgeous, but for Tinie’s tiny feet, exposed in beautiful, open-toed shoes, quickly became too numb to walk. Derek did what anyone newbie husband would, he lifted his bride as though to carry her over the threshold, and skirted her to cover.
The reception was a joy-filled event. Family and friends celebrated the couple with touching speeches and live singing performance for their first dance.
The couple is both originally from the Philippines and only moved to Chicago within the last year. Many were unable to make the trip overseas for the wedding, so a video montage featured special appearances filmed in kitchens and bedrooms of friends and family back home, a touching and funny tribute to the couple.
I’m pretty darn lucky that my sister-in-law and her husband happen to be as attractive and hip as they are awesome. It’s safe to say I won the jackpot when I married Anthony. I’ve always wanted a big family, and with him, that’s exactly what I got! It’s just an added Bonus that Maria and Trey are great people–they’re two of the most inspiring DIY-ers, combining their eye for style with can-do attitudes. I love visiting their little one, Fiona, and seeing what new projects they’re working on.
So, of course, when it came time to take a picture for their Christmas card, I wasn’t surprised to see them looking like they just walked off the pages of a magazine. Lucky me!
This family photo session below features lil’ rugrat, baby Roberto. He’s simply edible! I could hardly resist those cheeks! His father, Roberto Sr. and mother, Irene (who I met during her sister Tina’s wedding this past June), are such a sweet couple, both pursuing life-changing careers (she’s a doctor and he’s working on his Ph.D. in clinical psychology), so they dedicate most of their free time to this little guy. The result is a close, beautiful, loving family, which is always a joy to photograph.

Earlier this month I was invited to Fox News Chicago to speak to Sun Times Splash Magazine editor, Susanna Carlson about what goes into a great family portrait. It was such an honor to be invited to the show, and I made it through the interview despite the butterflies in my stomach. I’m lucky to be living with an expert in this area. The timing of the interview worked out so that I was able to ride down with my husband, who coached me through the questions like an old pro, before dropping me off at FOX. As much fun as I had, I think I’ll leave the tv appearances to Anthony, who I now have even more admiration for because of how easy he makes his smooth on air deliveries look!
NBC 5 Chicago’s Lauren Petty welcomed the birth of her third daughter, Claire, four months ago. This past Claire had her very first photo shoot, along with the rest of the family in Western Springs, IL. Petty is just as beautiful in real life as behind the video camera, and her three daughters are just as photogenic!
